Do Your Drains Need To Be Cleaned Or Replaced?

Anytime a drain develops a clog in it, it may require hiring a plumber to clean it out so that the water will flow freely down the drain and into the sewer system. When clogs begin forming all the time, you might wonder if you should have them cleaned, or if now would be a good time to replace them. Here are several things to know that can help you determine if you should hire a plumber to clean them or replace them.

Consider the Frequency of Clogs Forming

The first factor you might want to think about in this decision is how frequently the clogs form in your pipes. If you experience one clog each year, this is relatively normal. A clog a year would not be a good indicator that you should immediately rush out and replace all the pipes in your home.

If, on the other hand, you have clogs forming every month, there is probably some type of problem with your pipes. If there isn't a problem with your pipes, the clogs might be forming so often from the things you are placing in the pipes. In this situation, you may need to start limiting what you place in your drains.

Consider the Age of the Plumbing Pipes

The second thing to think about is the age of your pipes. If you live in a new home, the pipes in the home will be relatively new. If you live in an older house, the pipes might be as old as the house. For example, suppose your house is 50 years old. With a 50-year old house, the pipes probably have never been replaced; however, they probably need to be. If you experience a lot of problems with old pipes, replacing them is typically a good route to consider.

Consider the Overall Condition of the Pipes

Finally, you should ask a plumber for his opinion on the overall quality and condition of the pipes in your home. A plumber will not be able to see the pipes hidden away in your walls, but he will be able to see exposed pipes. By seeing the exposed pipes in your house, a plumber can offer advice and suggestions based on the current condition of your pipes.

If you need assistance with a clog or with replacing pipes, contact a residential plumber. A residential plumbing company can fix the problems you have and can recommend upgrades and changes to your system that will help you avoid problems in the future.

About Me

Although it might seem like something that is easy to do, plumbing isn't one of those jobs for the faint of heart, especially in heavily used areas like bathrooms and kitchens. I started thinking about learning how to repair plumbing a few months ago, and it was really neat to see how much of a difference my efforts made. Before I knew it, I was able to streamline my entire home through proper repair, and I was impressed with the results. I wanted to start a website completely devoted to plumbing repair, so I made this blog. Check it out!
